Decathlon which literally means 10 sports is a French sporting goods retailer. With over 1500 stores in 49 countries, it was conceived in 1976 in Lille, France. Founded by Michel Leclercq, it is currently headquartered in Villeneuve-d’Ascq in France. It is the largest sporting goods retailer in the world.
Decathlon came to India in 2009. It promises a wide range of sports equipment with a promise of 50 sports.
It also owns over 20 brands, with R&D facilities all over France to develop the latest innovative designs, registering up to 40 patents per year. Each brand represents a different sport or group of sports, with dedicated product development and design team. With revenue of Rs 1,278 crore for the year to March 2018, Decathlon has also become India’s second-largest single-brand retailer after Xiaomi. Number one in the sporting goods retailers. Overtaking brands like Nike, Adidas, and Puma.

Generally, brands like to hire people at a beginner level instead of lateral hiring. The same is the case with Decathlon. Decathlon hires people for the beginner roles across all departments. The lateral promotions are usually done among the existing teammates who have shown some good results in the previous roles with the company.
There are various departments and roles existing within Decathlon Sports India. From retail front-end roles, IT, Ecommerce, supply chain roles, designing, communication to supplier relation roles. There is a wide area of Jobs available in Decathlon.
Decathlon Interview process.
Decathlon is one of the companies out there which doesn’t care about your previous experience or the institution in which you studied. If the hiring managers find you the right fit for the team and the role they will hire you. The process of recruitment at Decathlon is simple. You can make your profile on recruitment.decathlon.in and put in your CV. If you are shortlisted, the concerned recruitment relay will call you for a short screening interview. The interviewer will talk to you for a few minutes to understand your profile, your motivation level and your past experience if any. Based on your answers the interviewer may select or reject you. He or She will give you your feedback then and there as to why they doesn’t think you are the right fit.
If you qualify the first round, the recruitment relay will send you a mail with all the necessary details like job description. They will further ask you to fill an interview sheet. It is a like a resume with questions related to your profile. A date for next round of interviews will be set and notified to you.
Decathlon recruitment day (DRD)
DRD or Decathlon recruitment day is a process developed by Decathlon to hire desired candidates. On this day, you are required to report early morning at 6 am. The day starts with a small introduction and presentation about the company. Post that the first round begins. First-round is called the sports round which starts with the beep test. Beep test or Multi-stage fitness test a 20-meter running test with increasing intensity. As the test progresses the time duration between the beeps gets shorter, so that the runner has to increase the pace. A score of 10-13 beeps is considered good.
The evaluators jot down their observations and proceed to the next test which is the ‘Create a new game and play it’ test. Candidates are required to conceive a new game and play it amongst themselves. They are also required to come up with their team names and war cry. The third test is a group discussion test. The hiring manager divides candidates into small groups and gives a topic for discussion. The candidate is free to speak for and against the topic. This is the last test of the first round. After a short break, the hiring manager announces the results. The shortlisted candidates proceed for the final round.
The final round is the interview round. A candidate is to sit in-front of a panel of interviewers. A general interview lasts for about 15 minutes. The hiring managers will ask an array of questions to gauge the strengths and weaknesses of the candidate. An ideal candidate is the one who is sporty, is passionate, lively and practical. The shortlisted candidate are then assigned departments and their joining dates. If there is still some doubt about the candidates profile, he is called for a LOL or Live our life program. LOL is a two day internship, where a candidate is made to work alongside Decathlon teammates.
